Goes Nowhere, Does Nothing
[meme] Everyone else is doing it...

misc: xellos
(If I said I was going to start making actual LJ posts that aren't zero-content meme posts, no one would believe me, right? Yeah. Ok, I won't say that. How about "I'll only post one meme for every three 'real' posts I make, at most?" Will that fly? :)

I wouldn't even do this one, but it's pegging my nostalgia meter. It reminds me of the USENET lyrics quizzes we used to respond to (and occasionally post) back at WPI.

The meme: Put your music collection on shuffle, and post the first line of the first 10 songs, and let people guess. I took a few liberties. I posted twenty instead of ten, I skipped songs that had the title in the first line, I only used one song per artist, and I skipped a few completely impossible ones. :)

Have fun! Or don't.

16. Pet Shop Boys, "What Keeps Mankind Alive" (not originally their song, but I know this is the version you have. 8)

Yeah, but I'd have given credit for either attribution. I was kind of hoping someone would name the original source, just for kicks. :)

I should probably get more of these.

Maybe, maybe not, but I'm impressed that you got #18 wrong. ;)

Oh, yeah, "Going Under."

I used to have a mix tape with those two songs on it, so they're kind of squished together... 8)

#17 is John Parr, "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)", and yes, I do feel ashamed for knowing that.  :-)
2006.05.01 03:36 pm (UTC)
Oh, don't worry, that's not the most potentially-shameful song in that list. ;)
2006.05.01 03:46 pm (UTC)
Oh, hey, I liked that song.

Made me wonder when I first got Another Green World if John Parr had covered Brian Eno, but, yeah, well, then I listened to it.

John Parr covering Brian Eno... /me's brane explodiates.

Of course, now I want to locate John Parr's song...

For best effect, I should play it in a mix with "We Don't Need Another Hero" (Tina Turner, Mad Max III: Beyond Thunderdome) and "The Reflex" (extended mix, Duran Duran).

AllMusic is your friend.  :-)

Ah ha! Romantic Hits of the 80's here I come!

Whoo hoo, it also includes "Captain Of Her Heart," by Double. Oh, the creamy smooth blandness, like creamy peanut butter if it were flavorless and white. Very white.

Very white indeed.

That's what got me sucked in, too. :)

Maybe we should find somewhere on LJ to post a periodic lyrics quiz.

(I'd say the gweep LJ, but a separate one is probably better... make it easier to avoid.)

Rats, 17 wasn't taken when I opened this comment and when I replied it was. Oh well. I know almost all of the other ones already solved.

2 is from one of the songs on Information Society's Don't Be Afraid, but I can't remember which one and my copy seems to be missing, so I'd have to cheat and use Teh Intarweb to be more specific. "The Ridge", maybe? "Ozar Midrashim" is an instrumental...

10 is from Wang Chung's "Praying to a New God".

I had to let 20 play in my head until I got to the chorus before I could remember which Bad Religion song it was, which is probably a sign I'm getting old, since it's only one of my favorite tracks and all. Jeez. It's "Parallel".

Got it in one... "The Ridge" is the right answer.
